XS2005II BamaChips Tuner
Explorers, Rangers and SportTracs can all benefit from a custom reflash tune. By reprogramming the factory engine management system we can improve the performance and response of your Ford. We have done extensive dyno testing and research to find areas of the Ford program which can be recalibrated to make your Ford run better, with no detrimental effects.
In addition to the chassis dyno work, weve also road tested test the vehicles under varying conditions and monitor and aquired data. We use this information to make adjustments that affect everyday driving and performance. We even go as far as to tune the transmission for shift quality and feel, which in turn can prolong the life of the transmission by improving the shifts and reducing heat build up from slipping clutch packs.
The BamaChips Tuners ship with three programs, 87 octane performance / premium fuel performance / premium fuel torque. The 87 octane program works well for those who prefer to use regular grade fuel. The premium fuel performance program allows us to give the engine more spark timing which improves low end power, throttle response and has the ability to increase fuel mileage. The premium fuel torque program is designed for towing or heavy loads. It really makes a difference down low in the engine torque and helps bring additional power where its truly needed in these heavy vehicles
Some owners prefer to use the torque tune for everyday driving. Thats one of the nice features of the BC tuner, the owner can freely exchange the tunes as many times as theyd like. From feedback from our Xcalibrator customers, fuel mileage is best with the premium fuel performance tune, some claiming up to a 3 MPG gain. We do not represent the tuner as a fuel economy improvement, but that is sometimes a side benefit. The tuning is done via the Xcalibrator3 handheld flash device. Rather than use a chip that plugs into the computer port and may have connection issues, the reflasher actually rewrites the engine control programming in the vehicles control unit. Ford is very conservative in their tuning, assuming that the owner will use subpar fuel and expose their vehicles to extreme conditions and their tuning will sacrifice performance to work under those conditions. The tuning is done from the drivers seat with no tools. Following simple included instructions, the Xcalibrator cable plugs into the OBDII port under the steering column. The OBDII connection will power up the handheld unit and the display will light. Then the installer selects which function youd like to use, either tuning, code reading (on any 96 or newer Ford product) or data logging. Choose the program that youd like to install, press select and the Xcal will prompt you to turn the ignition on. The Xcalibrator then uploads the factory program for storage in the handheld device. This step also keys the Xcal to your vehicle VIN which prevents use on any other car until the factory program is downloaded back to the original vehicle. The tuning will be completed in under 5 minutes. Then turn the key off and disconnect the cable. Simple, yet very effective. Aint technology great. On newer vehicles with Drive-by-Wire systems, we can remove any trace of throttle delay, or lag time, when the accelerator is depressed. The BC throttle tuning is very advanced and you will notice the difference. Because the recalibrated programs are written for your specific vehicle we will need some specific information:
- vehicle year
- vehicle model
- engine type (OHV/SOHC) and size
- transmission type
- vehicle year
- axle code - 2 digit code from the vehicle data plate
- tire size
- 2WD or 4WD
- computer box code - this 4 digit code (3 letter / one number) is generally on a tag on the control unit
- premium fuel rating in your area
We will recalibrate your speedometer to read correctly with the stated tire size and axle ratio. On 99 and newer Explorers and SportTracs you can also self calibrate the speedometer with the Xcal device. Another nice feature for those who run different size tires in summer and winter. In addition, if you specifically request, we can raise the vehicle speed limiter.
